At the gateway to the Jasmund peninsula: quiet semi-detached houses, roughly half an hour from the chalk coast.
Sagard sits in the northeast of the island, where the Jasmund peninsula begins. Staying here puts both the national park and the Großer Jasmunder Bodden lagoon within reach: beech forest and chalk cliffs in the morning, shallow lagoon water in the afternoon. The houses stand on the quiet edge of the village rather than along a promenade – that is what sets this apart from a stay in a seaside resort.

From the national park centre at the Königsstuhl, the clifftop trail runs in one direction towards Sassnitz and in the other towards Lohme. Both stretches are signposted and can be walked in stages; the full route takes half a day. Chalk breaks away, so the path keeps its distance from the edge, and fallen material regularly collects on the beach below – after heavy rain it is wiser to stay on the upper trail. From Sagard you can reach the trailheads by bike or bus.

Sagard has the unusual advantage of two very different bodies of water nearby. The Großer Jasmunder Bodden is shallow, sheltered and calm – good for small children, for stand-up paddling and for fishing. The open Baltic along the northeast coast brings surf and wind, with the beaches at Lohme and Glowe, where the Schaabe spit leads across to Wittow. You can switch between the two within half an hour without leaving the island.

The routes around Sagard are flat to gently rolling, and many of them avoid the main roads. The Jasmund cycle route links the villages of the peninsula; to go further, buses and trains take bikes on board. For rainy days there is the dinosaur park and the butterfly house in the village, plus a swimming pool and the museum ship in the town harbour at Sassnitz. Each house has its own terrace and lawn, so children can be outside without an adult having to come along.

The Baltic is warmest in August, reaching roughly 17 to 20 degrees Celsius, which also makes July and August the busiest weeks. For the national park, May, September and October are the better months: the beeches turn colour, the clifftop trails are quiet, and the chalk stays bright even under cloud. Winter leaves little of the tourist bustle – in exchange you get the cliffs almost to yourself and pay noticeably less for the house.
The 118-metre chalk cliff inside the national park, reached via the clifftop trail or the national park centre with its exhibition.
The ancient beech stands on Jasmund are UNESCO World Heritage. Trails lead straight through the forest and out to the coast.
The Großer Jasmunder Bodden borders the village: shallow, sheltered water for paddling, fishing and younger children.
Largely flat routes connect Sagard with Sassnitz, Lohme and Glowe, mostly running away from the main roads.
A dinosaur park and a butterfly house sit in the village, with a pool and the town harbour at Sassnitz minutes away.
The houses sleep four, have two bedrooms and a private terrace, and stand on the quiet edge of the village.
Quiet semi-detached houses in Sagard, minutes from Jasmund National Park, with both the lagoon and the open Baltic within reach.
